This week has felt like I have done a lot of soul searching and reflecting. So it got me thinking about who inspires me and I wanted to share it on my blog with everyone.
So there are two big main influences for me ,who inspired me to take up gardening.
Firstly was my husbands Papa Joe who was the most amazing gardener. His garden was like for me a wee lost world where you could just go in an explore and it had so many different styles of plants, pots and recycled materials that he had made into pots or planters. some of my favourite where his toilet , bath and the Belfast sinks he has planted up flowers in. He loves showing you his garden and he was the best gardener in the area for almost 10 years. He loved to show you his garden and talk about how he has taught my husband all about gardening. We now have his cardigan hanging in our greenhouse as a memory of him and to remind us of him when we are building our garden.
The second person who inspired me to start gardening was my husband and I will admit at first I was not sold on the whole gardening thing. How wrong was I??!! My husband is the second person who inspired me to start gardening , he is so talented at gardening but he doesn't always realise just how good he is. He has been teaching me how to garden and passing down the skills that his papa taught him. He inspires me because he encourages me and tell me that I can do anything I set my mind to. He also inspires me by openly talking about his mental health and that gardening improves his mental health and wellbeing. He doesn't always know just amazing skilled, he is at building and designing our gardens. But if it wasn't for them both I would never have started to garden or believe in myself that I could grow my own fruit and vegetables.
My next two influences in the gardening world are the amazing Monty Don and Francis Tophill . I love Monty because he is open and honest with you about how to garden. I used to think that professional gardeners never had a plant that didn't grow or died or didn't germinate. He isn't afraid to tell you, that thing didn't work out which for me I absolutely love because it shows you that gardening isn't perfect. He openly talks about his life and how he struggles with depression and how the garden helps him to improve his mental health and this is very relatable to me because of my husband having depression and anxiety. it is amazing to hear him talk openly and gives you hope for what you can achieve.
My last person who influences me is Francis Tophill , she like me has recently taken on an allotment plot and openly just like Monty shares her ups and downs on her plot. she is an inspiration for me that I can hope to become a gardener like her. Who inspires you? 🌺
