Get to Know Me

Background Information

I am a apprentice gardener and I have been for many years. But it is only really since 2018 that I have really got the gardening bug. The reason I started to garden was through my husband. My husband suffers from severe depression and anxiety and through gardening it helps him to improve his own mental health & wellbeing. I began my gardening journey through doing the weeding for my husband in our first home we owed together. We didn't know at the time but my husband has psoriatic arthritis and he was struggling to be able to do he weeding so he asked me to do it for him as the garden was his area. I have my husband to thank for why I am now learning horticulture and for why I have my allotment plot. I began to do the garden and I really enjoyed it, I noticed how it could help me if I was having a hard time or just that I found being our in the garden helped to clear your mind and time to think. I started to get a passion and enthusiasm for gardening, I really wanted to learn how to grow my own food. It was my husband who encouraged me and continues to encourage me to start learning. He got me two strawberry plants and two tomato plants to look after. It was £4 that changed my life because I nurtured and looked after those plants and I grew lots of homegrown tomatoes and strawberries. I started to work with a local allotment through my work and I was offered a small plot which I jumped at and took on the challenge. fast forward to now and i have my allotment plot. I have started up social media pages on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. I have recently just started a YouTube channel as a video blog of my gardening journey and adding some hints and tips along the way. This website and blog is also part of my journey thank you for visiting and hope to hear about your gardening journeys and why yo started gardening.
