Bee šŸ Friendly Gardening

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog.

This week it is World Bee šŸ Day, so I am talking about something very close to my heart and its a subject that I am very passionate about is looking after the bees šŸ in our gardens.

There is a very important reason why we have to save the bees as they are vital to our lives. They are so important to our eco system. Sadly we are losing our bumble bees to lack of habits or pesticides being used in the garden. I also think there is a stigma attached to bees that people see them as a nuisance in the garden and will try to get rid of them. When in actual fact if we lose bees mankind will die out and will only have 4 years to live when bees are no longer alive. We need to stop and think and educate everyone about just how important bees are to our lifeā€™s.

Here are just some reasons why we need bees and what they help to live and survive:

Now I would like to show you a video on why we need bees and why they are in decline.

It makes me so sad that itā€™s is us as humans who are infact damaging habits and that we are playing a huge part in the decline of bees.

However there is still time for us all to play our part in our garden or allotments.

Things we can do to help the bees:

1.Plant wild flowers in our garden or create a wild area in garden.

2. create or have a bug / bee hotel for them to live.

3. Plant vegetables and fruit in your garden.

4. Plants Herbs in our garden.

5.Stop using pesticides in our garden.

6.Have an area in your garden which is no mow , where you let the grass grow undisturbed.

Now I will share a video from an RHS about how you can attract bees to your garden.

Here are some flowers and herbs you can plant in our garden to attract bees and butterflies.

You can also add a bug hotel to your garden or allotment. You can buy one or you can make one from pallets and fill it with materials for insects and bees to make a house in.

For information on how to make your own pallet big hotel , you can read more on then wild life trust website how to make a bug hotel :

If you donā€™t have the space to have a large bug hotel then you can buy or make a smaller version of a bug hotel using recycled material.

Here is a video of how you can make a big hotel from recycled bottles :

You can also buy a bug hotel like this one :

These are just some of of the things that we can do in our garden to help the bees in our garden. There is a saying if you build it they will come and itā€™s so true! We have lots of bee friendly flowers and plants in our garden. Over the last 5 years in our garden we have added to it and changed our garden but we have always attracted wildlife and bees & butterflies. I am adding a small bug hotel to my garden this year in my mini allotment area and we will also be adding a small pond with a wild flower border to help attract more biodiversity in our garden. I have been teaching the children I work with, my nephews and also my mum about the importance of looking after our environment. We can all do out part and change our garden to be more friendly to wildlife. Even if itā€™s just a part of your garden you let the weeds grow or a part of the garden you donā€™t mow.

To finish off my blog this week I want to share with you some photographs of verbs in our garden.

A bumblebee on one of our African marigold flowers:

A bumblebee on our lavender plant in the garden.

A bumblebee in our fuchsia.

A Honey bee šŸ at my allotment on my homegrown Dahlia.

A bumblebee on our Lupine in our garden.

A bumblebee on our Dahlia.

These are pictures I took of my garden or at the Allotment. I love to capture the moment when you are in the garden , itā€™s good to look back on and itā€™s give you a sense of progress when keeping a log of your garden but mostly is lovely to capture the wildlife in your garden.

I hope to hear about all of your gardening stories about how your garden is bee friendly. I hope you have enjoyed this weeks blog , until next time you will find me in the garden! šŸ’ššŸ‘©šŸ»ā€šŸŒ¾šŸŒæ
